ARTIST STATEMENT
The importance of nature to me as a Métis is my main source of inspiration. I am constantly awestruck by the beauty that is found in the smallest of flowers and the unintentional humour of animals. I am always surprised at what I learn from observing flora and fauna, forever reinforcing the very fact that humans are inextricably connected with nature, no matter how much we try to conquer it.

When I reflect on Métis culture, I am reminded of the symbols that represent the life of the Coureurs-des-bois and the Voyageurs, as well as the old way of life when not working. I’m also interested in lives of the Métis women and the flower designs they applied to their clothing and other garments. But the most personal aspect of being Métis for me is the duality that exists in bridging two very different cultures (the European and the Aboriginal) into a distinct one.

My goal as an artist is to blend these two cultures through style and sometimes borrowed symbols to produce something new that is tangible and unique.
